The Reverend Dr. Carl W. Filer
Pastor

Newly installed as pastor at Emmanuel, Carl Filer brings a wealth of experience as a parish pastor, U. S. Navy chaplain and former missionary to Tanzania in East Africa. Born and raised in a Lutheran household in Berks County, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia where he met his future wife, Barbara, a pediatric nurse working at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. They have a daughter, Allison, and son-in-law, Scott McMillan. Pastor Filer’s passion is mission and evangelism in which he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2019 from the United Lutheran Seminary. He especially enjoys putting that passion into practice through his preaching, community engagement, and visits of congregational members.

Steven C. Eisenhart
Director of Music

Steve has been Emmanuel’s Director of Music since August of 2019. He is responsible for planning and providing all of the music for our worship services. In addition to directing the Chancel and Handbell choirs, he also oversees the Alive in Christ Worship Team. Prior to coming to Emmanuel, Steve was the Director of Music at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bechtelsville, PA (1996 to 2001), Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jamison, PA (2002 to 2004) and Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Souderton, PA (2005 to 2019). Steve is also a registered architect in the state of Pennsylvania and is employed by Richard Kapusta and Company, Architects, Engineers and Planners in Telford, PA. He lives in Harleysville with his partner, Patricia, and his two grown children, Erin and Alex.
